Im ready to pull my hair out, For the life of me I cant figure this out so maybe someone out there can help
I have a Gateway 510XL running xp sp2 I have smart link 56k voice modem, and am on dialup… I know but its all that is avalible to me, I was running 512 memory and thought increasing it would help because of the dialup, WRONG.. This is what happens, I bought two more sticks of memory 256 each, it has to be put in in pairs I already have 2 sticks 256. I have a totle of 4 ports. Now this computer is upgradable to 4 gb. It is the right memory, got it from gateway and this is the second time. when i install the two sticks of 256 windows hangs on start up and here is the clincher, it effects my modem, there is stactic i can hear, and its really screws everything up, slows the internet down to nothing, have tryed switching in different ports and have also just put in the new and taken out the old, as long as I only have a total of 512 things run great but put in the other 512 and things go to hell, what can be causing my modem to get messed up when i try to put in more memory? Id love the answer to this it is driving me crazy
