OE, mbx, idx, dbx

I understand that OE 4.0 uses mbx and idx to store all the folder information. Now with OE 5.x, dbx shows up.
My question is, when you compact OE folders, my .mbx files decrease in size, why doesn’t my .dbx do the same?
