OEM?.INF

I recently contacted a support company regarding a parallel port tape drive. They wanted me to delete my OEM*.inf files and the * being any number of files. Does anybody know what these files do? What will deleting them do to the over all system?
They said the wrong driver is loaded.
Any infomation on those files will help.
