Of mice and Mouse

Have recently replaced my mouse (microsoft ps2 with roller) with a compatible A-4Tech mouse two button. No drivers came along with it. Here’s the Question :- when the system is booted up each day everything works fine except the mouse pointer is stuck. When the system is restarted it recognises the mouse and unfreezes it. Why does is recognize the mouse the second time round and not the first time?
