Office 2000 apps will not print

When trying to print from Windows Office 2000 applications,(going to file and then print) at times the application just starts flashing and will not open the print wizard. You can open and then close task manager and the print wizard will appear. What causes this situation? I have experienced it, with the following OS’s Windows ME, 2000 Pro, and XP all running Office 2000.
