Old IDE drive has password from OS need it on new machine

Hi, Can anyone help.
I have an old dead Dell Inspirion laptop (broken screen) I am trying to take out its hard drive and mount it to my new Dell M65. I brought a caddy to put the old drive in. Via USB it works fine with my new lap top. The trouble is all the info I need off of it is in my documants. I get “Access denied” everytime I try to open that file. I did have a password on the boot screen of XP proffessional. I really need to work this out.
