Operating System not Found

XP Home ED after plugging in a new DVD/CDRW drive into laptop 9compa presario 2700T) I get an “operating system not found” error. Bios boot order is correct also if I place OS CD in drive still recieve same messgae and no option to press key to boot to cd. Connector type on drive is compatible with laptop interface. Bad drive?
