Optorite Cd-Rw not detected

I have just installed the Optorite cd-rw in place of my cdrom and windows 98se does not detect it.The cdrw uses master pin setting as did the cdrom drive.The comp shows a cdrom on secondary drive alone.The primary is the hard drive alone.I have even reset the cmos and still the cdrw is not detected.I have installed the cdrw nero soft ware when the cdrom was in,this did nothing when I hooked up the cdrw.No detection.Can someone give me an idea what’ up.I have an IBM 300GL.
