out of paper error in Windows 2000

I work for a large corporation and we are started deploying Windows 2000 a few months ago. We have a couple of PC’s with HP Deskjet 692C printers connected to them through the Parallel port. Once in a while they will come up with an error that the printer is out of paper, even though the printer has plenty of paper in it. The only way to get rid of the error is to reboot the PC. This will last for a couple of days then it will happen again. I have looked for new drivers, but none exist that I can see. Is there a cure for this problem?
