I have a network running NT4 sp6a, Exchange Server v. 5.5. Clients are running MS Outlook 97 & 98 w/latest service packs.
My problem seems to have something to do with the Private Store.
Symptoms:
When users select “Empty Deleted Items Folder” Outlook hangs. It acts as if it is emptying the folder and if you bring up task manager it shows as running. However, if you click to cancel the operation then go to task manager, it shows as Not Responding. Also, personal folders can be created and renamed, but not moved or deleted. When trying to move or delete folders, you receive pretty much the same problem.
Public folders can be created, moved, renamed & deleted.
Users can manually delete items from deleted items folder one by one, but not more than one at a time.
Just as a test, I deleted all but one message in the Deleted Items folder one by one, then tried to select “Empty Deleted Items”….froze again.
This is a HIGH AVAILABILITY network, so I cannot afford to down the server to play with it…and it goes without saying that I need it fixed LAST WEEK. If you have been there, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
