Overwritten files

Running Windows 2000 Professional I seem to have overwritten, or have erased all files in MY Documents. I’ve looked for hidden files, in the recycle bin and have had no luck. Does anyone know of a tool or utility that can recover these files. Ideally an image would be saved that included all data but I may be dreaming
