My client uses an application written in FoxPro, using named pipes under NetBeui for connection to a database. The topology is peer-to-peer, with the db files residing on a 1.4Ghz P4, and 5 client workstations, all running Windows 2K Professional.
The only networking components installed are the MS Windows Client and TCP/IP (and file/print sharing, where needed). IP addressing is static, non-routable (192.168.x.x), with Netbios over IP ‘enabled’. All PCs are visible in the Network Neighborhood, and are browsable.
All networks functions work well, including file and print sharing, ‘net, etc. This application, however, continually freezes and, when terminated, has disconnected the PC from the network, severing the mapped drive connections. The only possibility for recovery is a re-start. Logging off does not resume the connection.
The software developer has no support for this (of course.
