P2P – not working usin a laptop and a PC

I am having great difficulty in getting this sorted out. The laptop will not see the workgroup, the PC does. The PC actualy polls the network but the laptop will not. I can ping both computer names. I have removed the firewall I had but still no trafic, all protocols, worgroup names and UID’s are as they should be according to other informatin I have been viewing. This has got me very frustrated, can you please help.
PC=10/100 Ethernet NIC
Laptop= 10/100 Ethernet PCMCIA card
through a 5 port 10mbps hub all working fine(tested)
