Palm issues

Im having two different issues with Palm right now. Any help would be appreciated. First off, after installing the palm desktop, i go to run it and it will not load past the splash screen, the PC is a P4 laptop running XP. The palm is a PalmIII.

Second issue is on a different P4 laptop also running XP. No matter which com port I try to use, it always says they are in use. When I try to do a HotSync, it beeps 3, times then nothing.
