Paradox ver9 on XP pro – or not!

I have a 5 pc netowkr running Win98se2, Win ME and (!!) XP pro.
I have a Paradox database running on a Win98se2 pc, and each client runs the paradox database engine (BDE) locally -so far so good.
I want to move the database tables to the new whizzy XP machine but ….
The XP machine will not run the Paradox local client (error message ” cannot initialize BDE! – insufficient shared memeory”)
I have searched the BDE support sites, and changed the paramters in the INIT table in the BDE administrator, but now change!

anyone have experience running Paradox on XP?

I can run the BDE from the XP machine by setting up and share to a win98 machine and running it from there, but I dont really want to do that !!

any ideas?
