PC being “locked” & asking for password

by bradq . Updated 25 years, 2 months ago

I have several pc’s setup running Windows 2000 Professional. Two of them are having the same problem.

If you leave the pc unattended for awhile and come back there is a message saying “This computer is in use and has been locked. Only \DMW2\Administrator or and administrator can unlock this computer”. Its the exact same message you would see if you did Ctrl-Alt-Delete and locked it on purpose.

I have checked the display settings and hibernation and advanced power saving is shut off. It’s set to not use any screensavers (password protected or otherwise). The “prompt for password when computer comes out of standby” is unchecked as well.

Why does it keep locking itself with no screensaver/power saver features/options set?

The pc’s are all Dell Optiplex GX110.
