PC DVD Ovation

I have an AMDK6, 400 mhz,128k ram system, and a fast enough video and sound card. But everytime I try to play the DVD I get jerky screens. I use Win-DVD 2.3 under W2K. Any suggestions on how to get a smoother playback?
