PC will not update to .NET 2.0

I have been doing simple Window Updates on my PC and encountered this problem>
The update id’s >Net 2.0 as being one of suggested updates; when selected it goes through download; initializes installation; then everything just freezes. I have checked if maybe there is any application I might have added and removed it and still had same problem.
