PC2PC direct connect w/serial or parallel

I tried connecting 2 WinXP Prof computers using direct parallel cable.I need to transfer files from old one to new one.(i have no network card in one) I got ‘connected’ but what do you do next?? You cannont transfer files/there is no way to explore other computer. Can you recommend some software that works with direct connect? I tried the Files Transfer Wizard but that don’t work with parallel. I tried connecting with serial and got ‘connected’ but you have to ‘disconnect’ to use the Files Trans. Wiz. What the heck? MS Knowledge Base leaves a lot to be desired. Please lead me straight.
