When working with a Win2K OS workstation, the user has expereinced a lag in response using several applications (explorer, excel, access, word, and third vendor (Informix) software). The lag time lasts upto 2 minutes before the response returns. (Repsonse could be opening the file, saving a file, printing a report, searching to open a file, inquiring within the informix application, etc).
What has been done so far:
1) Changed the NIC settings to Full Duplex – 100 Mb
2) Captured log with PerMon (all processess running at time of slow performance) and all counters for TCP/IP activity (to, from, retries, errors, etc).
3) Network switch reports for activity on the same port as user.
Although we thought #1 was the culprit, slow perfromance was still experienced after the changes were made. None of thelog trapping seemed to indicate there was a “bottleneck on the port, router, or any of the switches between the user and the servers connected to the workstation.
The slow performance is very sporadic – we went 3 weeks without any incidents reported and then 5 were reported in the same week. The NIC card are 3Com and connected to a Cisco Switch.
I am soliciting responses to this Slow Perforamce.
