permissions – nt4 to w2k

(I hope this doesn’t show up twice, I don’t see it listed on My Questions, so I’m trying again).
I have set up a w2k server to replace a dead nt4 server. It will be a file server only. I have already copied the public/share directories/files over to one of it’s hard drives, now to do the private directories/files from another nt4 box. When I copy the dir/files from the nt box to the w2k box, what will happen to the permissions? I would like them to stay as is, untouched. Will they retain theiroriginal permissions after being copied from nt4 to w2k?
