Phantom Workstations

I have renamed an NT workstation in my domain. Normally I can do this with no problems, however, when I did this one, the PDC stated the computer was removed, but the name still exisits. I do not us WINS or DNS in my domain, so I don’t know where to check and see where this “Phantom Name” is hiding? I need to change the name of the PC back to what it was, but the PDC won’t let it because it says the name already exists on the server… make sense?
