I am trying to decide if I should stay with my Cooperative Education Employer GM in Manufacturing or take another offer from Toyota in Design Technical Career Path. I have MS in Engineering Management and BS in Mechinical. I have over 3 years in work experiance with GM in Manufacturing in a plant and the offer base salary is $9000 more. Also at GM I know almost everyone in the plant. The bad part of manufacturing is at this site overtime is required and as a student worked 7 days a week 12 hour shifts and I am afraid of a life of OVERTIME Slavery even though I would be compensated. The Toyota job is for Design where I would have a M-F 40hour week. It also is more techinical I would be required to modify CAD drawings etc which I do not have extensive work experiance in. I also never work in Technical side so I do not know if I would do well or not. I really like the normal hours though. Eventually I want to go into management. I am not sure which career path I can pursue this area the fastests as well. I know at GM to move up a Level requires a couple years or more in the rough work enviroment several hours. Also I am wondering if this is a good more since Toyota is currently doing better and GM may cut back in the future?
