PIII / Fan connection

Hi – Saw a question about cpu temp 80+ being too hot. Said needed connection salve between fan and chip. One I am working at gettin going is 105+ (case open). I got the salve but it looks like the fan and chip connect (silver ‘tape’ on fan with indentation of chip). Does the tape come off? Salve go between tape and cpu chip? Is 105+ too hot? Does temp go down 20 degree with sides on case? My house is about 70-80 with eval cooler on. Thx, lo
