Power management query-hard disks etc

I have a windows 98 system is there anything diastrously wrong with taking the default setting for Home/Office desk power scheme.
By this I mean, if I set the hard disk to turn off after a certain time and the system standby to take effect after a certain time, am I damaging the disk or anything else in any way? I am aware that this setting is OK for the monitor it is OK, but what about the other options.
