Power Supply Failures

by lump_16 . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

In 10 years I’ve never had to replace a power supply on a system before.

Some 10 months ago I purchased a brand new XP 1800+ system SOYO Dragon K7-something er other motherboard I believe.

Somewhere around Xmas the original power supply failed. So I replaced it with a new power supply and now just 2 days ago the new one failed as well.

Did I just happen to get 2 cheap PS’s? Or is there something mroe at work here?

Both power supplies were 400 watts. I checked to see if perhaps there was low voltage comming from my UPS but voltage is steady around 117 both going into and comming out of my UPS.

What are other factors that could contribute to PS failure?

Thanks,
