We are a large college with over 600 pc’s
I have 2 Windows 2000 Advanced Servers servers load balanced on a 1 gigabit backbone, both running DHCP sharing an overall address range, 1st servers scope is excluded from half of the address range and vice versa and both are authorised. I have DNS running on both servers and both are writing logs to the Active Directory.
I can browse, ping, all my client machines and my Internet service providers DNS, Mail and Proxy servers easily as well as communicate over our Educational Intranet to other schools. I am having problems with printing. All my printers are controlled via ethernet print server boxes and have static Ip addresses attached to them. When I ping these addreses I seem to be getting andextremely slow response or complete time outs. I also have problem printing as the client machines print through a shared networked port on the servers. I have checked all the major switches for traffic problems but they are all operating below 5% !! (we seem to have over invested in our backbone, but what the state gives you in grants you have to spend it anyway!!!)
