Yesterday a got called out on a W2k server that wasn’t printing. It has one HP 5500 attached to LPT1. It has two HP Designjet Plotters attached from a Linksys print server via IP. All three mahines are shared. No one on the network was able to print to any printer. I went to the server and tried to print a test page to the locally attached HP 5500 with no luck. Finally I rebooted the server and everything came back fine. The only event I am aware of was the customer upgraded a W98 machine to XP with an XP upgrade. Any clues what could have jammed the print system to the point that I could not print locally from the server? I did notice that the locally attached HP 5500 was not directed to LPT1 when I first arrived. It was redirected to an old IP port that is no longer being used. I assumed that when the customer started having trouble they got on the server and tried fixing it themselves. I am very curious from some of you if you have seen the W2K print system get jammed to the point of requiring a reboot?
