printer

I have a pentium3 with windows 98 sec.edition,I have followed all trouble shooting help links.my system says it recognizes the printer is installed,I have tried printing from different programs but it still prints garbled,Ibought a new printer and installed the supplied software,it still prints garbled and then throws out blank pages (not a new problem),it will go thru all the paper in the tray,Any hope?
