Printers – print directly to the printer

I have 7 HP printers, servicing Win98, 95 & NT workstation clients; all of the printers have internal hard disks.

Currently printing is via print queues on an NT server.

I want to use the hard disks on the printers & print directly to them & bypass the server. I know you can print directly to the printer by selecting the radio button on the scheduling tab of the printer properties but when i tried this on the workstations – jobs hung for ages. Do i need to select the radio button on the server or is there another way to print without going near the server.

HP were of little help – they wanted me to add a HP printer port, however, we use TCP/IP printing.

Any ideas?
