Printing across the WAN

by scott r . Updated 23 years, 5 months ago

Is this possible? I have a network printer with an internal IP at a remote office behind a 3com firewall that is performing NAT. On my computer at home, I add a new printer with Local TCP/IP port selected and I put in the firewall’s external IP address. On that firewall I have the raw printer port 9100 forwarded to the printer’s internal IP. After I install the printer I try to print a test page but it always fail’s and give’s me a “Document failed to print due to GDI/Driver error in rendering.” error. I’m pretty sure it’s getting to the printer cause on the firewall I can trace the packets going to the printer. It is only sending SYN’s though and then resets. Is it even possible to setup a printer this way over the WAN? Test printworks fine on the local LAN. I can’t set it up as a network printer to a share because ports 137-139 are blocked at COX’s routers. Thanks for the help.
