Printing Canon Multipass

I have a Windows 2000 PIII 800 MHZ machine with Canon Multipass C80 installed. After a disk failure, the multifunctional needed to be reinstalled, however the PC does not recognise any connection to the printer. I have installed a new LPT port, have played around with the ports, but it keeps giving me a connection failure on installation. It then aborts. Installed an HP 1100 to the machine and it worked beautifully. I then installed the Multipass on another machine (exact same specs and manuf.) and it worked like a bomb. Why will this not work on the reinstalled system. Been through the BIOS etc..it’s a compaq deskpro EN series.
