Printing in Win2000

Printing from a Win2000 computer to an HP LJ 4MV on LPT1. In a DOS program, we’ve tried printing to LPT1, copying to LPT1, printing to WN$PICK, and printing to WN$LPT1. The standard print and copy tests resulted in the warm up process of the printer being initiated, but no print job. The WN$… tests didn’t even get that. From the command prompt, the command COPY LPT1, which should spool the file to the LPT1 port does not work either. Any other suggestions? Thanks
