problem installing windows xp

when i try to install windows xp i get as far as the “starting windows” in the dos based portion of setup and my system hangs. it never fails to hang at that spot and has never gone farther. if i install windows xp on another computer then put my hard drive in back in my computer then windows xp will run fine.
