Problem opening Access Software

I have had a nightmare today.

Earlier today I found my laptop no longer played any sound. After much deliberation I decided to reset the machine to its factory settings. No problems here as sound has been restored.

However I then had to reinstall office 2003 (run windows xp). No problems whatsoever, or so i thought… When I tried opening access 2003 the installer pop up box appears and starts to install access again. Then at the last minute the box vanishes and nothing else happens. All other programs in the suite work fine except access. I would not be that concerned except I desparately need to use access asap for work.
