Problem Printing With Canon iPF8000

by wa . Updated 19 years, 4 months ago

I have one of the new Canon iPF8000 wide format printers and am having some weird problems printing. It is connected via our small network (Win XP Pro, peer to peer) and is “seen” by the network, will ping just fine and other devices also print via this same network. And nope, we haven’t exceeded the ten user/device limit built in to XP networking. And this problem also occurs when using the USB connection, so don’t think it is the network or type of connection at issue here. What happens is that we can start up, the printer is recognized in the Canon GARO utility, we then can print one job but when we go to the 2nd job we get the GARO error message “cannot communicate with printer”. At the same time Windows print screen will pop up and show TWO identical jobs spooling to the printer. First one will error out, then the other. These jobs can range in size from 5mb to 850mb. According to Canon this printer will handle jobs well in excess of 2gb so I don’t see size being an issue. This happens whether we are using a recent high end PC with a fast processor and 4gb of memory or (via USB) an older PC with 1gb of memory. I’ll pursue it Monday when Canon tech support re-opens but in the meantime I though someone here would have some suggestions. By the way, the printer has the latest firmware and the GARO utility is more recent than the one currently up on the Canon web site, so those issues seem to be ruled out.
thanks,
Waring Abbott
