I have a home network that consists of three computers… a 233MHz Pentium MMX with 416MB, a 466 MHz Celeron with 160MB, and a Laptop with an AMD processor (K6, I beleive, at about 300-400mHz) and 192MB, all running Windows 98se. The network is 100-BaseT Ethernet, with CAT-5 cabling throughout, using Client for Microsoft Network, and Microsoft Family Logon. The network is setup with the 233mHz MMX as the “server”, with the primary shared resources on this machine. All worked well in this configuration. BUT… I recently upgraded the MMX machine to a brand-new HP Pavilion 751 P4 1.7GHz with 512MB DDR and windows XP. With this new setup, I am able to access the laptap FROM the XP machine, but when I try to map a network drive to a shared folder on the XP machine from the laptop, I get an “out of memory” error. I have not had any luck finding any info on this from the Microsoft knowledgebase. The XP machine in setup with NTFS… is this a problem to access from Win98? Does anyoneout there have any idea what this problem might be? I can supply more info if needed.
To summarize, from a Win98 machine, I am unable to map a network drive to a shared folder on a WinXP NTFS machine, getting a “Out of Memory” error.
