Problem with HP scanners

I developed a problem using an HP Scanjet scanner. At different times in the scan cycle, I will get a blue screen indicating a “dump of physical memory”. At first I thought it might be the scanner, so I changed it out with two other scanners with the same results. Limited my startups using msconfig prove to be of no help. I am at a loss. Any thoughts?
