problem with mp3 on win2k

Mp3’s playing using windows media players.(Any version) on Windows 2K mp3’s sound like if is running out of juice or lock of power. I try several players and disable the hibernation but still plays funny. Any suggestions? (By the way I’m using a Toshiba 8100 PIII laptop)
