Problems printing from excel

Using windows NT4 workstation. On a domain and printing to a network printer and have had a lot of problems printing to a network printer from excel. the PC doesnt respond and you have to go to task manager to clear it. I have re-installed office (97pro), deleted and re-installed the network printer from the PC and still happens.
Is this a common problem?
