Problems with Windows Me booting

Almost everytime that I boot up my Win ME os, the boot screen says that it is updating the Windows configuration and when windows fully loads, it opens up the “My computer” file manager. This is really annoying and I can not seem to find what is causing this to happen. Is there a registry key value that may be causing this?
