program error

I have win 2000 Pro
when i try open the search a message appear:
PROGRAM ERROR
explorer.exe generated errors and will be closed
by windows.
you will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created.

when i check the event viewer in the application log
the shell stopped unexepectedly and explorer.exe
was restarted .
