Programs starting automatically

My customer has a Windows 98 machine at home. When starts up the computer, some programs start automatically. However, he looks at the StartUp folder in the Programs menu and it is empty.

He would like to know how to display a list of the programs that are starting automatically and how to disable their automatic startup.
