Protection error

Upgraded to Winsock 2.2, started having problems with IP-related programs. Used upgrade program’s ws2bakup.bat to restore old winsock, got sharing violation on several files. On reboot, got “Windows protection error”. Tried running Setup out of Windows/options/cabs, got Error SU99407. Booted to Safe Mode, removed offending devices, still getting Windows protection error. Help?
