Proxy and ISP Mail

We have NT workstations accessing internet through proxy just fine. WSP client is installed on the workstation. We get an error that the proxy server is not a WSP Server or the server is down. The server is not down. Any suggestions? When we don’t get that message, we still can’t get mail. Pop3 and SMTP are set up in proxy.
