Proxy.pac configuration

by stergios_nik . Updated 22 years, 8 months ago

Hello.

I have some old PCs running Windows 95 and Windows 98. They have Internet Explorer 5 installed on them.

We access a protected web site via a PROXY.PAC configuration file. We are authenticated by the protected web site with a username and a password.

The configuration of Internet explorer 5 is as follows:

Tools->Internet Options-> Connections-> LAN Settings

We enable the “Automatic Configuration Script” option and we type the location of the proxy.pac file: “http://www.protectedsite.com/proxy.pac”;.

PCs running windows 98 are working without problems. Internet Explorer connected to the remote proxy server and asks for authentication.

But..
PCs running windows 95 are not working. I configured them using the same settings but the authentication dialog box does not appear. I suspect that something (a program?) is missing from Windows 95 and does not allow connections.

Any ideas what is causing the problem?

Thank you in advance.
