puzzling printer problem

I cannot print from IE 5.5 to a HP printer running on w95.
Printing from other programs is fine. When you hit the print button just nothing happens, no dialog box just nothing. IE continues as if nothing had been clicked. I have reinstalled the latest driver from Hp AND ie 5.5. still no printing. Any ideas gratefully recd.
