Raid 0 help

Friend is using Windows XP Pro with raid stripe setup. Had some kind of mishap and now cannot get drive to boot. I took one of the two drives and tried to connect it to my computer via adapter (forgot to mention, it’s a laptop) and does not show up in My Computer. Computer recognizes it, but says it’s not initialized. My understanding is that initializing it will erase what is on the drive. How can I see the drive when hooked into my system via the laptop adapter?
