Raid drive running out of space

I have raid 1 running on 36GB x 2, running of space, can I remove 1 drive and put in 146Gb rebuild the virtual disk and once done remove 2nd drive of 36GB and then put another 146GB again.
Any better recommendation for proper upgarde
