I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop with a strange cursor problem.
The machine seems to perform just fine for a while then suddenly the cursor will just ‘drift’ of its own accord off either up towards the top right corner of the screen or sometimes down towards the bottom left corner of the screen. There is no apparent action that triggers this, it just happens at random times and if you move the mouse or use the touchpad to try and stop it, the ‘drift’ simply continues (albeit the cursor looks like it’s in the middle of a ‘tug of war’).
Also, if you press any of the Shift, Alt or Ctrl keys the cursor immediately flies down into the bottom left corner.
I initially thought the machine might have a virus but I have scanned it completely with up to date Norton definitions and it comes up clean.
It is a virtually new machine so I’d be both surprised and annoyed if it is a hardware fault.
I’ve tried it with a couple of different mice and also just with the touchpad and no mouse connected. It makes no difference.
Anybody got any ideas ?
